NMB Bank – EMBRACES EQUITY

NMB BANK ON A DRIVE FOR GENDER EQUITY BY FIGHTING PERIOD POVERTY.

NMB Bank Zimbabwe proudly partnered with the Unlimited Hope Alliance Trust, donating sanitary pads to deprived and underprivileged girls throughout Zimbabwe as part of its International Women’s Day and Women’s month initiatives. This gesture of support was received by a crowd of thankful, joyous girls and women who had been directly impacted by the donation at the Unlimited Hope Alliance Trust in Goromonzi.

Period poverty is real and still prevalent in Zimbabwe, especially in the poor marginalized communities. As a result, the health of many women and girls is heavily compromised.

Recent studies show that an estimated 72% of menstruating school girls do not use sanitary products simply because they cannot afford them and are forced to miss school as a result. The lack of sanitary products results in alternative dangerous methods such as rags, cardboard, tissues, newspapers, leaves, and cow dung amongst others. These alternatives put young women and girls at greater risk of health complications, physical discomfort, and mental stress. “If Zimbabwe wishes to be an equitable society, period poverty must be taken seriously and addressed, as NMB Bank we are committed to playing our part in ensuring every young girl can attend school whenever they need to,” said Bank representative at the handover.

NMB Bank has women in leadership who particularly care about Corporate Social activities that impact young women and girls. "It is our responsibility to look after our sisters, daughters, and mothers. We can only create a better future for these ladies if we recognize and appreciate the power and productivity of women in any field. We, at NMB Bank Zimbabwe, are committed to having a positive impact by helping these ladies with these sanitary pads." said Margret Chipunza the NMB Bank Chief Finance Officer at the start of NMB Bank Women’s month activities.

“Sanitary pads are a necessity for women and yet remain inaccessible to far too many, leaving girls to resort to makeshift alternatives not safe for use. This donation from NMB Bank Zimbabwe serves to help bridge the gap, giving girls the essential hygiene support they need to succeed in life. “Added Margret.
