NMB Bank’s Commitment to ESG: Fostering Sustainability and Responsible Banking
At NMB Bank, we have commenced the year with a deliberate focus on fostering sustainability and responsible banking through the Environmental Social Safeguards (ESS) and Stakeholder Engagement Training, held from January 8th to 10th, 2024.
During the training session, 41 ESG Champions represented various levels across the bank. These individuals will be the key drivers to ensure that our commitment to ESG compliance will permeate throughout all the units and subsidiaries. We covered essential topics ranging from IFC Performance Standards PS1 to PS8, to the screening and categorization of projects, as well as discussions on Environmental and Social Safeguards and the establishment of a Grievance Redress Mechanism.
The primary objective of the ESS training was to equip the team with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage environmental and social risks effectively. These risks may arise from direct operations or result from relationships with customers. Providing comprehensive training on ESG principles and practices enhances the organization’s capacity to identify, assess, and mitigate potential risks, ensuring operations align with international standards and best practices.
We recognize that integrating environmental, social, and governance considerations into our business strategy is not only the right thing to do but also essential for long-term success. By proactively addressing ESG issues, we minimize negative impacts on the environment and society while maximizing positive outcomes for all stakeholders.
